HydroPatch provides a high performance and cost-effective solution for permanent repair to asphalt and concrete surfaces. This environmentally friendly, cold mix, water activated product sets up rapidly and is traffic-ready immediately. Thanks to its revolutionary organic renewable additives, HydroPatch offers a permanent repair solution, thus eliminating the need for repeated repairs or replacements. It is a weather-friendly product, usable all year round, under any weather condition—hot or cold, wet or dry.


Application Instructions

Step One

Remove loose debris and clean the area to be patched.

Step Two

Pour HYDROPATCH in the hole.

Step Three

Spread and level. If deeper than 2 inches, apply in two layers.

Step Four

Pour water over HYDROPATCH evenly. Excess water does not damage the material, or undermine the repair.

Step Five

Compact and allow one hour to be traffic-ready.



HydroPatch Features

HydroPatch starts to harden immediately after adding water. It also has excellent durability and the same eventual strength as that of hot-mix asphalt.

You can install HydroPatch over ordinary asphalt pavement. HydroPatch cannot be installed over steel, plastic, or concrete materials due to poor adhesive characteristics. HydroPatch can be used in either asphalt or concrete potholes. HydroPatch can be applied in a concrete pothole because it binds to the concrete edges through mechanical bonding.

  • Conventional cold asphalt patch (volatile hardening type): Mineral-based lubricating oils are added during the mixing and manufacturing process to ensure sufficient workability at normal temperatures. The mix hardens as the lubricating oils volatilize after being applied. In actual repair scenarios, the lubricating oil often remains in the mix to some extent, leaving the patch soft for several months.

  • HydroPatch: (chemical reaction hardening type) A special lubricating oil is used instead of a mineral-based lubricating oil. The main feature of this lubricating oil is that it hardens when mixed with water and organic additives (added during the manufacturing stage). Adding the water to the mix during the installation process causes this special lubricating oil to undergo a chemical reaction with the accelerant, which hardens the repaired patch. The fast speed of this chemical reaction results in the mix quickly hardening.


  • Repairing potholes in roads

  • Areas where hot-mix asphalt (HMA) is difficult to use (such as narrow roads and areas where open flames are prohibited)

  • Driveways in front of houses

HydroPatch should be applied in layers of 1 to 2 inches thick. Apply HydroPatch in 2 layers if each layer exceeds 2 inches in thickness. The second layer must be applied immediately after the first layer, and twice the amount of water is added over the repair area. Tamp the entire surface.

  • You can install HydroPatch over ordinary asphalt pavement. HydroPatch cannot be installed over steel, plastic, or concrete materials due to poor adhesive characteristics. It is not recommended to apply HydroPatch directly onto soil. Applying HydroPatch directly onto soft surfaces can cause sagging and premature cracking. If there is loose soil, tamp it down to make a firm foundation.

HydroPatch cannot be used in a thin layer, so it should not be spread over a shallow hole. The minimum depth requirement of the hole is 1 inch. If the hole is greater than 2 inches deep, apply multiple layers of HydroPatch, add water, and compact the layers together.


  • The mixture can be compacted by stepping on it, so only a shovel and water are required. Using mechanical compaction (such as a plate compactor or tamper) helps to improve durability.

Water should be applied as evenly as possible using a funnel or plastic water bottle. It is advised that 1 quart of water is required per bag, but there are no issues using more water exceeding this amount.

Yes, you can use it in the rain. Note that the mixture will harden in rainwater, so it is recommended to quickly compact the material after application.

It is not necessary to drain the puddles. You can use the water in the puddles and add less water before compacting HydroPatch.

You can apply HydroPatch as long as the temperature is higher than 14 °F. Note that the water being applied should be kept warm (at normal room temperature) within the work vehicle.

  • Areas where car tires can push up against the repaired patch (like parking areas): ready for traffic after 2 hours

Durability & Service Life

HydroPatch will generally last as long as ordinary hot-mix asphalt. The service life of the repaired area can be affected by the volume of traffic, or by the structural integrity and extent of damage of the surface. The patch may become quickly damaged if the repaired area is structurally damaged, or if there is a lack of support (such as areas where there is major sagging along the finished surface due to vehicle movement, or from being applied directly on top of mud). Premature cracks may appear if HydroPatch is used over an area that is already cracked.


Store bags of HydroPatch in indoor or outdoor areas that are out of the rain. Avoid direct exposure to sunshine and rain.

Six months from the date of manufacture.

It is recommended to use the entire bag of HydroPatch in one use. If you want to use any of the remaining quantity of HydroPatch, seal the bag properly and use it as soon as possible (within 1 day). Before reusing the material, check that it has not begun to harden.

Repair Crews: 

HYDROPATCH is a big time saver for repair crews because it eliminates the need for costly trips back to the asphalt plant. HYDROPATCH doesn’t have the time constraints associated with hot mix, or even warm mix asphalt. Just keep it dry until it’s time to use it. Then simply add water, tamp it down, and it’s traffic-ready in less than one hour.

Seal Coat Crews:

HYDROPATCH is a great solution for seal coat crews because it enables them to make quick repairs, and apply seal coat within just one hour. Now, when they encounter a fault with a surface, they don’t have make a judgement call as to whether or not they should seal coat over the problem area, or postpone the project and wait for a repair crew to fix it – they can fix it on the spot, and seal coat within the hour. And they can be confident in their repair work, knowing HYDROPATCH is a permanent repair solution. Convenient bags are a more cost-efficient alternative to buying asphalt from a plant. You don’t have to purchase more than you need (minimum tonnage requirements), and then deal with the leftovers by hauling them back to the plant for recycling.

Grounds Maintenance:

HYDROPATCH is ideal for schools, airports, hospitals and other institutional facilities that need quick fixes and occasional repairs of concrete and asphalt on their grounds. Keeping a supply of bagged HYDROPATCH on hand can be a real money saver. You can avoid the cost, and time delays, associated with a one-ton order minimum from the local asphalt plant. By repairing a fault sooner, rather than later, you also reduce your liability, and improve safety conditions. Get that pothole fixed fast, and permanently, with HYDROPATCH. Just clean out the debris, pour in the HYDROPATCH, add water, and tamp it down.

Pour water over HYDROPATCH evenly. Minimum of 1 quart of water can be used per 35/50 lb bag and 55 lb pail.



Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test

The Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test is used to evaluate the resistance to rutting and the moisture susceptibility of bituminous mixtures. A small loaded wheel device repeatedly rolls across a prepared asphalt mix specimen. The test terminates at either 12.5 mm of rutting per set, or at 20,000 total passes.

HYDROPATCH was tested in 50°C water under a moving 158 lb wheel load at 50 passes per minute. The above result shows that the rut depth after 10,000 cycles is -2.18, and -2.68 after 20,000 cycles. Both depths are lower than the maximum allowance that is defined by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials). The HYDROPATCH material performed well in the test.
