Enhancing Concrete Durability and Appearance with Cures & Sealers

Introduction

At SpecChem, we understand the importance of ensuring the longevity and aesthetics of concrete surfaces. Our Cures & Sealers range is designed to improve hydration, protect surfaces, enhance durability, and boost the appearance of concrete. In this blog post, we will discuss the application procedures for our cure and seal products and explain their benefits.

What are Cures & Sealers?

Cures and sealers are specially formulated compounds that help enhance the strength, durability, and appearance of concrete surfaces. They play a crucial role in proper concrete curing, which is essential for achieving the desired properties of strength and durability. By reducing curling, scaling, and crazing, as well as plastic shrinkage cracks, cure and seal products help maintain a more uniform color, minimize dusting, and ensure maximum strength and longevity.

Application Procedures for Cure and Seal Products

Timing: Apply cure and seals as soon as the surface water has disappeared, and the concrete surface won’t be marred by the applicator.

Uniform Coat: Apply a uniform coat for curing. For added protection and a superior finish, apply a second coat at a right angle to the first coat.

Surface Preparation for Sealing: When used for sealing only, ensure the concrete surface is clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, dirt stains, and incompatible coatings.

Surface Renovation: Application of cure and seal products can renovate existing concrete, brick, or terrazzo floors, making them brighter and easier to clean and maintain.

Agitation: Thoroughly agitate water-based cure and seals before application. Avoid high-speed mixers.

Low-Odor Solutions: Low-odor water-based cure and seals are suitable for both interior and exterior applications. Ensure they are not exposed to freezing temperatures.

Application Equipment: Use a low-pressure sprayer with a wide-angle, fan-tip nozzle for application. Distribute any puddles using a lamb’s wool roller or pad.

Uniform Application: Apply the cure and seal uniformly at the specified rate. Once the first coat has thoroughly dried, apply the second coat at right angles to each other.

Understanding ASTM C-1315

ASTM C-1315 is the industry standard for curing and sealing specifications. It includes different types and classes, each with specific properties.

• Type I: Clear or translucent
• Type II: White pigmented
• Class A: Non-yellowing, Gardner Color Standard No. 1
• Class B: Moderate yellowing, Gardner Color Standard No. 3
• Class C: Severe darkening and yellowing

Both Type I and Type II have a minimum of 25% solids content.

Conclusion

Proper curing is vital for producing concrete with the desired strength and durability. By using SpecChem’s high-quality Cures & Sealers, you can ensure that your concrete surfaces achieve their full potential in terms of strength, longevity, and appearance.
