SpecEtch Deep
Horizontal deep surface retarder
SpecEtch Deep is a spray-applied, chemical surface retarder designed to expose the underlying aggregate of freshly placed horizontal concrete. It is engineered to not alter the natural color of aggregate or concrete, providing an economical and effective method to enhance the aesthetic of concrete surfaces.
- Non-Flammable & VOC Compliant: Ensures safety and environmental compliance.
- Blue Dyed for Visibility: Simplifies application by highlighting treated areas.
- Effective Etching: Achieves a typical etch depth of 3/8” to 1/2”, recommended for mix designs with 1/2” or larger aggregate.
- Ready to Use: No additional mixing required, simplifying the application process.
Application
- Concrete Placement: After placing the concrete, float, screed, or trowel level without overworking the surface to prevent sinking of aggregate.
- Application Time: Apply SpecEtch Deep as soon as surface water has disappeared using a garden-type sprayer to avoid puddles. Normal application rate is approximately 150 square feet per gallon.
- Covering: Cover the treated area with plastic sheeting (black preferred) to cure. Typical etch is 3/8” to 1/2”.
- Exposure: After 12 to 24 hours, depending on conditions, remove the plastic and flush off the retarded concrete with a garden hose and stiff broom. A pressure washer may be used carefully to expose the aggregate.
Packaging
- Available Sizes: Packaged in 55-gallon drums and 5-gallon plastic pails.
Shelf Life
- Shelf Life: One year from the date of manufacture when stored properly in original, unopened containers.
Coverage
- Typical Coverage: 100 – 200 square feet per gallon, depending on surface conditions and desired depth of etch.
