SpecPoxy Binder
ASTM 881 compliant low-mod, epoxy binder/adhesive
SpecPoxy Binder is a two-component, multi-purpose, low-modulus, moisture-tolerant epoxy binder adhesive. It meets ASTM C881 requirements and can be used as a multilayer, waterproof, skid-resistant polymer overlay system for bridges and parking decks. This low-viscosity binder is solvent-free and offers flexibility to sustain movement due to thermal changes.
- Low Modulus, High-Strength Adhesive: Meets ASTM C881 requirements.
- Moisture Tolerant: Can be applied in damp conditions.
- Flexible: Capable of sustaining movement due to thermal changes.
- Waterproof/Skid-Resistant Surfaces: Creates impermeable surfaces that are also shock-absorbing.
- Easy Aggregate Blending: Ideal for mortar repairs, allowing easy blending of aggregates.
Application
Surface Preparation
- Cleaning the Surface: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dirt, laitance, curing compounds, and other foreign materials. Achieve optimal adhesion by creating a roughened, open profile through shotblasting or mechanical abrasion. Vacuum thoroughly to remove dust and debris.
Mixing and Application
- Mixing SpecPoxy Binder: Do not thin with solvents. Ensure air, material, and surface temperatures are at least 40°F. Precondition materials to 75°F for easier mixing. Mix 1 part of Part A with 1 part of Part B using a low-speed drill and Jiffy mixer for three minutes.
- Epoxy Mortar Preparation: Gradually add 3.5 to 5 parts of clean, dry silica sand to 1 part of mixed SpecPoxy Binder, ensuring the sand is fully wetted by the epoxy. Apply a neat coat of SpecPoxy Binder as a primer to the prepared substrate, then trowel or screed the epoxy mortar while the primer is tacky.
- Broadcast Overlays: Apply neat SpecPoxy Binder with a 3/16” notched squeegee at approximately 75-100 sq ft per gallon. Broadcast clean, dry aggregate over the binder after it has leveled out, then remove excess aggregate after curing.
Packaging
- Available in 1 gallon units, 2 gallon units, and 10 gallon units.
Shelf Life
- Store in original tightly closed containers.
- Shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture when stored properly.
