PlasterBond Green Conscious Product

Rewettable Bonding Agent

PlasterBond is a re-wettable PVA latex bonding agent specifically designed for the interior and exterior bonding of fresh plaster in patching, plastering, and topping applications. It is not suitable for areas subjected to constant moisture, hydrostatic pressure, or continuous water saturation but can be used as an admixture to enhance the adhesion and durability of interior plaster and plaster mixes to various surfaces. PlasterBond may also contribute to LEED credits.

  • Excellent Bond Strength: Ensures durable bonding of plaster to concrete surfaces.
  • High Viscosity: Provides optimum performance and ease of application.
  • Enhances Mortar Properties: Improves the flexural strength, bond strength, and impact resistance of plaster and stucco mortars.
  • Crack Minimization: Helps to reduce the formation of cracks in interior stucco and plaster.
  • VOC Compliant: With less than 50 grams per liter, it meets environmental safety standards.
  • Visual Application Aid: Available in blue tint to ensure complete coverage, also available in white.

Application

Surface Preparation

The existing substrate must be mechanically abraded to remove all unsound concrete, ensuring it is structurally sound and free from contaminants such as laitance, grease, oil, or dirt for optimal bonding.

Mixing and Application Guidelines

  • Mixing: Agitate well before use.
  • Application: Apply a uniform coating of undiluted PlasterBond at a rate of 250 sq-ft per gallon using a brush, roller, or sprayer. Ensure it forms a continuous film over the area to be bonded. The treated surface should remain slightly tacky when dry.
  • Drying Time: Typically 20-30 minutes at 70°F, though this may vary with ventilation.
  • Reapplication: Porous surfaces may require a second coat after 1-2 hours if a continuous film is not achieved.

Application Rate and Conditions

  • Apply PlasterBond up to 24 hours before installing plaster or stucco toppings. Traffic on treated areas should be minimized until the topping is applied.

Packaging

  • Available in 55 gallon drums, 5 gallon pails, and 1 gallon jugs (sold in cases of four).

Shelf Life

  • Store in a cool, dry place. When stored properly in its original tightly closed container, PlasterBond has a shelf life of 1 year. Protect from freezing.

Standards

  • ASTM C1059 – Latex Agents for Bonding Fresh to Hardened Concrete Type I
  • ASTM C932 – Surface-applied Bonding Compounds for Interior/Exterior Plastering
