Por-Rok Concrete Patch

Cement based vertical and horizontal repair mortar

Por-Rok Concrete Patch is a robust, fiber-reinforced, cement-based repair mortar designed for vertical and overhead applications. It can be applied up to 4 inches thick on vertical surfaces and is ideal for a wide range of concrete repairs. Common uses include bridge columns, parking structures, spandrels, beams, concrete ceilings, tunnels, pipes, pilings, and other similar applications. Por-Rok Concrete Patch is available in a light concrete grey, allowing it to blend seamlessly with existing concrete, and can be sculpted after initial set for a tailored finish.

  • Rapid setting
  • Single component – Easy to use
  • Shrinkage compensated
  • Exceptional compressive and flexural strength
  • Light grey in color to match existing concrete
  • Excellent adhesion
  • PolyBond can be used to improve freeze thaw resistance and bond strength

Application

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces must be solid, clean, and free from loose or damaged concrete, dust, dirt, and other substances that could impair adhesion. It’s essential to create a roughened surface texture to enhance bonding. The area should be saturated surface dry (SSD) with no standing water. Applying a no slump bond coat of Por-Rok Concrete Patch or a bonding agent like Poly-Bond to all surfaces before applying the patch is recommended. Ensure that the bond coat remains wet prior to applying the Por-Rok Concrete Patch.

Steel Exposure and Rebar

All reinforcing steel should be fully exposed and cleaned, maintaining a minimum clearance of 3/4 inch. The preparation of reinforcing steel should follow ICRI Technical Guidelines No. 03730. For optimal results, the edges of the patch area should be saw cut to a depth of 1/4 inch.

Mixing Instructions

  • Standard Mixing: Mix close to the repair area. Use about 3.75 to 4.25 quarts of clean potable water per 50 lb. bag of Por-Rok Concrete Patch. This equates roughly to 1 part water to 5 parts powder. Use a low-speed mortar mixer or a 1/2 inch drill with a mixing paddle, mixing for at least 90 seconds to achieve a uniform consistency. Avoid re-tempering.
  • Enhanced Mix: Mix close to the repair area using 1 gallon of PolyBond per 50 lb. bag of Por-Rok Concrete Patch, maintaining the same proportions. Ensure thorough mixing as with the standard mix and do not re-temper.

Application Method

Apply the freshly mixed mortar promptly, ensuring full contact with all bonding surfaces by firmly pressing the Por-Rok Concrete Patch into the prepared area. Overfill slightly and sculpt to the desired shape with a steel trowel after initial set. Moistening the surface lightly with a water mist can aid in the final shaping. In deeper repair areas, subsequent layers can be added after the initial set of the prior layer by scoring the surface to enhance bond strength.

Additional Application Notes

  1. Contractors should consult the full technical datasheets of all related products for comprehensive application details as on-site conditions can affect product performance.
  2. Protect the application from freezing for at least 24 hours after application.
  3. Do not incorporate accelerators, admixtures, or foreign chemicals into the mix.

Packaging

Por-Rok Concrete Patch is available in:

  • 50 lb bags (58 per pallet)
  • 10 lb pails (160 per pallet)
  • 5 lb pails (320 per pallet)

Test Data

  • Compressive Strength (ASTM C109): 3300 psi at 1 day, 4500 psi at 7 days, and 6000 psi at 28 days.
  • Yield/Density: 0.46 cubic feet per 50 lb unit.

For detailed guidance on curing, refer to the American Concrete Institute Procedure No. 308, and ensure the Por-Rok Concrete Patch remains moist and shielded from environmental factors that may cause rapid drying for up to 24 hours.
