SpecPatch 30
General purpose polymer-modified concrete repair mortar
SpecPatch 30 is a polymer-modified concrete repair mortar designed for the restoration of concrete floors, walls, precast structures, tilt-up, and masonry surfaces. It is adept for use in both interior and exterior environments and is capable of horizontal and vertical applications, offering a durable repair solution that can be custom shaped by shaving or sanding.
- Can be shaped
- Repairs up to 1″ in thickness (2″ in isolated areas)
- Can be feather-edged
- Designed for interior & exterior repairs
- Dries to a natural concrete gray
- Excellent durability and adhesion
- One-component — just add water
Application
Applications:
- Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
- Applicable for vertical, overhead, and horizontal repairs
- Ideal for no slump consistency applications
- Effective repair material for concrete pipes, curbs, sidewalks, and precast concrete
Surface Preparation
- Cleaning the Surface:
- Ensure the concrete is sound, and free from oil, grease, dust, laitance, or other contaminants.
- Saw cut perimeter: Cut the perimeter of the repair area 1/8” deeper than the repair depth to create a notched, reinforced edge.
- Abrasive Preparation: Mechanically abrade the surface to a minimum Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of 5. Ensure all surfaces are saturated-surface-damp (SSD) with no standing water.
- Steel Reinforcement Treatment: Clean all exposed steel reinforcement of rust and coat with SpecPrep SB. Apply SpecPrep SB to SSD concrete, and proceed with the repair mortar application wet on wet or within the recommended open time.
Mixing and Application
- Mixing Procedure:
- Mix 6.75 to 7.25 pints of clean water per 50 lb bag of SpecPatch 30.
- Use a low-speed drill for mixing, starting with water, then gradually adding SpecPatch 30. Mix for 2 to 3 minutes until homogenous.
- Application Instructions:
- Trowel SpecPatch 30 firmly into the prepared area ensuring full contact with the bonding surface.
- Overfill slightly and shape roughly during placement.
- Shaping: After the initial set, shave the material to the final shape using a steel trowel. For large or deep applications over 3/4″, extend SpecPatch 30 with clean 3/8” SSD pea stone up to 50% by weight and mix for an additional 2 minutes.
Finishing and Curing
- Finishing: Finish the repair material to match the surrounding concrete texture.
- Curing: Moist curing is recommended immediately after finishing and should continue for 48 hours. Protect newly applied material from rain, sun, and wind until it reaches 70% of the 28-day strength.
Shelf Life
Unopened bags have a shelf life of 12 months in dry conditions. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Test Data
Technical Specifications:
- Initial set in 30-40 minutes and final set in 60 minutes at 70°F as per ASTM C266.
- Achieves compressive strength of 1000 psi in 3 hours, reaching up to 6000 psi over 28 days.
- Demonstrates minimal shrinkage and excellent freeze-thaw resistance with no scaling after 25 cycles.
- Offers a slant shear bond strength of 1680 psi after 7 days and flexural strength of 650 psi at 28 days.
Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment with water before the mortar hardens.
