Application

Applications:

  • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
  • Applicable for vertical, overhead, and horizontal repairs
  • Ideal for no slump consistency applications
  • Effective repair material for concrete pipes, curbs, sidewalks, and precast concrete

Surface Preparation: The concrete surface must be solid, clean, and free of oil, grease, dust, laitance, or any surface contaminants. For enhanced durability, the repair perimeter should be saw cut 1/8” deeper than the repair depth, creating a notched, reinforced edge. The surface must be mechanically abraded to a minimum Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of 5 as per ICRI 310.2 Guideline, ensuring it is saturated-surface-damp (SSD) with no standing water.

Priming/Scrub Coat: Remove all rust from exposed steel reinforcement and apply SpecPrep SB. The prepared surface must be SSD and primed with SpecPrep SB, applying the repair mortar wet on wet or within the primer’s open time. Alternatively, a scrub coat of the mixed mortar can be applied for enhanced adhesion.

Mixing Instructions: Mix 6.75 – 7.25 pints of clean water per 50-pound bag of SpecPatch 30, adjusting the amount based on desired consistency. Use a low-speed drill for mixing, adding water first followed by SpecPatch 30, and mix for 2-3 minutes. Prepare only what can be used within the product’s working time. For increased durability, mix with SpecChem Strong Bond Acrylic Bonder, neat or diluted, especially recommended for thin, heavy-traffic areas.

Deep/Large Applications: For repairs over 3/4″, extend SpecPatch 30 with clean, SSD 3/8” pea stone to closely match the thermal properties of concrete. For applications over 1”, extend with up to 50% 3/8” aggregate by weight and mix for an additional 2 minutes.

Application: Trowel SpecPatch 30 into the area firmly, ensuring full contact with the bonding surface. Shape the mortar after the initial set but while still workable. Apply in layers up to 1” thick, roughening between layers to improve bonding.

Finishing/Curing: Texture the repair to blend with the surrounding concrete. SpecPatch 30 typically self-cures under normal conditions. In dry climates, use a water-based curing compound compliant with ASTM C309.

Shelf Life

Unopened bags have a shelf life of 12 months in dry conditions. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Test Data

Technical Specifications:

  • Initial set in 30-40 minutes and final set in 60 minutes at 70°F as per ASTM C266.
  • Achieves compressive strength of 1000 psi in 3 hours, reaching up to 6000 psi over 28 days.
  • Demonstrates minimal shrinkage and excellent freeze-thaw resistance with no scaling after 25 cycles.
  • Offers a slant shear bond strength of 1680 psi after 7 days and flexural strength of 650 psi at 28 days.

Cleaning

Clean tools and equipment with water before the mortar hardens.
