SpecFilm RTU

Ready-to-use evaporation retardant/finishing aid

SpecFilm RTU is crafted for use as an evaporation retardant and finishing aid on all types of concrete flatwork. Applied via spraying on fresh concrete, it creates a protective film to inhibit rapid moisture loss. It’s particularly beneficial in conditions prone to rapid evaporation, such as direct sunlight, wind, high temperatures, or low humidity.

  • Dramatically reduces the incidence of plastic shrinkage and cracking by maintaining moisture, especially in harsh environmental conditions.
  • Enables the use of concrete mixes with reduced slumps and water-to-cement ratios.
  • Mitigates issues like wind crusting and uneven surface textures, ensuring a smoother and more uniform finish.
  • Features a pink dye as a visual aid to ensure thorough application. Fully compliant with VOC regulations.
  • Designed to minimize surface cracking in concrete types prone to early water loss, such as silica fume concrete.
  • Pre-diluted to an optimal 5:1 ratio for immediate use, guaranteeing maximum effectiveness.
  • Facilitates the finishing of concrete and repair mortars that typically produce minimal bleed water, like microsilica or non-air entrained mixes.

Application

Before application, ensure SpecFilm RTU is well agitated. Apply to fresh concrete immediately after screeding and as necessary between finishing operations to avert plastic shrinkage. During dry-shake hardener applications or under severe drying conditions, multiple applications may be required. Apply under standard conditions at a rate of 300-500 sq. ft. per gallon. In more extreme drying conditions, increase the application rate to 150-300 sq. ft. per gallon. Avoid over-application.

Packaging

SpecFilm RTU maintains a shelf life of one year from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, tightly sealed containers. Keep containers free from water, dirt, and other contaminants.

Shelf Life

Available in 55-gallon drums, 5-gallon pails, and cases of four 1-gallon jugs.

Standards

SpecFilm RTU meets the ACI 302 guidelines for “Evaporation Retardant/Monomolecular Film,” ensuring it meets industry best practices.
