SpecPlate Floor Topping

Metallic floor topping

SpecPlate Floor Topping is an industrial, metallic aggregate floor topping designed to significantly enhance the abrasion and impact resistance of new or existing concrete floors.

  • Increases abrasion resistance up to eight times compared to 4000 psi concrete.
  • Offers enhanced impact resistance, being more than twice as effective as plain concrete.
  • Creates a dense surface that effectively resists oil, grease, and many industrial chemicals.
  • Helps reduce maintenance costs due to its reduced absorption.
  • Achieves high strength quickly, ensuring minimal downtime and faster floor readiness.

Application

  • Ensure the workspace is under roof and controlled interior conditions are met.
  • Surface preparation should be done using a scarifier, shot blasting, or milling machine to achieve a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of #7-8.
  • Prime surfaces with SpecPoxy 1000 to ensure uniform bonding, applying at 75-100 sq. ft. per gallon using a notched squeegee, broom, or roller.

Mixing and Placing:

  • Use a paddle mixer, adding about 85% of the required water for a batch of 3-4 bags. Add SpecPlate Floor Topping and mix for around 2 minutes before adding the remaining water to reach a 5″ to 6″ slump.
  • Place the mixed topping over the tacky epoxy bond coat, screed, and bull float to the correct elevation, and apply SpecFilm to prevent rapid drying.

Finishing:

  • Float the surface once it can support the weight of a power float. Use steel trowels for finishing, taking care not to overwork the surface. Blisters indicate premature troweling.

Curing:

  • After finishing, mist the surface with water and cover with polyethylene sheeting for at least seven days.

Packaging

Available in 50 lb triple-lined bags and 3000 lb super sacks.

Shelf Life

Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight with a shelf life of 12 months under ideal conditions.

Test Data

  • Compressive Strength (ASTM C-109): 5000 psi at 24 hours, 7000 psi at 3 days, 8500 psi at 7 days, and 12000 psi at 28 days.
  • Coverage Rates: 0.75” topping at 13.5 lbs. per sq. ft., 1” topping at 18 lbs. per sq. ft., 2” topping at 37 lbs. per sq. ft.
  • Yield: Approximately 0.23-0.25 cubic feet per 50 lb bag.

Standards

  • Suitable for concrete that is at least 14 days old with a minimum tensile-bond pull-out strength of 200 psi according to ASTM C 1583.
  • Follow general guidelines for floor and slab construction as per ACI 302.
  • Application should include thickened edges and perimeter pins or nails at all edges and joints to enhance durability and prevent curling.
