Fast-setting hydraulic-cement mortar

Super SpecPlug is a super fast-setting hydraulic-cement mortar that instantly stops flowing water through holes and cracks in concrete and masonry surfaces. This product does not shrink or oxidize, ensuring durable, watertight repairs.

  • Single-component; simply add water.
  • Expands as it sets, ensuring strong bonds and watertight repairs.
  • Sets in about 90 seconds, rapidly stopping water flow.

Application

Recommended Uses: Super SpecPlug is ideal for:

  • Basement and masonry cracks
  • Floor and wall joints
  • Manholes and sewer pipes
  • Tunnels and swimming pools
  • Below-grade foundations

Surface Preparation:

  1. Enlarge cracks to at least 3/4″ width and depth, cut square or undercut; avoid “V” shape cuts.
  2. Clean the substrate thoroughly to remove grease, wax, oil, and other contaminants.
  3. Saturate the surface with water, ensuring no standing water remains.

Mixing:

  • Mix Super SpecPlug with a small amount of clean water to achieve a putty consistency.
  • Use approximately 20%-21% water by weight; about 9.5 pints of water per 50 lbs of product.
  • Mix only what can be used within 2 minutes.

Application Techniques

  • For vertical and moving-water applications, maintain firm pressure until final set (about 3 minutes).
  • Adjust water temperature to manage setting times based on ambient temperatures.

Curing

  • Super SpecPlug continues to gain strength as long as it remains damp.
  • Optimal strength achieved when wet cured for up to 2 days.

Packaging

  • Available in 50 lb (22.7 kg) pails.

Shelf Life

  • 18 months when stored in unopened containers in a clean, dry area between 45°F and 90°F.

  • Set Time at 70°F (ASTM C109): Initial Set: 40 minutes, Final Set: 70 minutes
  • Compressive Strength (ASTM C109):
    • 1 hour: 2175 psi
    • 1 day: 3375 psi
    • 28 days: 7640 psi
  • Flexural Strength (ASTM C78): 28 days: 1200 psi
  • Tensile Strength (ASTM C190): 28 days: 800 psi
