Homefield KC is a collection of youth sports performance facilities for baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, and football. Homefield KC’s multi-sport complexes were specified using 100% SpecChem products including SpecStrip, E-Cure®, SpecFilm, Cure & Seal WB, SpecCity White, SpecLevel PCT-AGG, LithSeal SC, All Shield EX, Max-A-Seal WP®, and SC Multi-Purpose Grout.
The Project
Homefield KC’s latest facility includes a 150,000+ square foot indoor sports arena, equipped with 10 basketball and 12 volleyball courts, alongside 8 outdoor baseball fields. This state-of-the-art facility chose SpecChem exclusively for all concrete chemical products, underscoring our commitment to quality and innovation.
Products in Action
Form Release Agents:
To ensure a clean release from forms and precast components, the contractor utilized SpecStrip. This advanced, chemically reactive, mineral oil-based agent left no residue, staining, or discoloration, simplifying the cleaning process.
Concrete Finishing:
SpecFilm was applied to fresh concrete, providing the team with more time to achieve the desired finish and look for the facility.
Curing Compounds:
SpecChem’s eco-friendly curing compounds – E-Cure®, Cure & Seal WB, and SpecCity White – played a vital role in enhancing the durability of the concrete, ensuring the complex can withstand years of intense use. E-Cure® is particularly notable for addressing compatibility issues with flooring adhesives, while Cure & Seal WB offers non-yellowing, VOC-compliant acrylic protection. SpecCity White’s white pigmentation significantly reduces heat buildup, improving the concrete’s strength and durability.
Grouting:
For securing the steel structures, SC Multi-Purpose Grout was selected. This versatile, non-shrink, cement-based grout provides controlled, positive expansion, making it ideal for diverse grouting needs.
Sealers and Protectants:
LithSeal SC was chosen to seal and densify all interior concrete slabs. This lithium silicate sealer ensures the concrete’s long-lasting hardness and durability. For exposed concrete surfaces, All Shield EX was applied, providing robust protection against oils, stains, and wear from heavy foot traffic. Additionally, Max-A-Seal WP® offered excellent waterproofing for exterior below-grade and between-slab applications.
Polished Concrete Topping:
To enhance the facility’s aesthetic appeal, SpecLevel PCT-AGG was used. This premium, self-leveling, polishable concrete topping adds elegance and durability, making the new Homefield KC a standout complex.
